About the Company
hello.co appears to be a technology company operating in Israel's banking and fintech software space. Based on the role profile, the team builds or maintains software systems for banking institutions — working right at the intersection of financial services and enterprise technology, where the code you write has real, measurable consequences for end users and the financial system at large.
If you're a CS student looking for hands-on exposure to production-grade engineering rather than toy projects, hello sounds like a meaningful place to start. Banking software asks a lot of you — in the best way: it demands rigor, structured thinking, and a genuine appreciation for how systems behave under constraints. Those are the kinds of skills that compound over an entire career, and this is the kind of environment where that foundation actually gets built.
About the Role
You'll write real code, pick up fintech fundamentals, and grow alongside experienced engineers — all while still in school. This is a student developer role at an Israeli banking software company, and it's built for someone who wants genuine hands-on experience, not busywork.
Responsibilities
- You'll write and test real code with senior developers guiding you, contributing directly to active engineering tasks
- You'll take part in code reviews from both sides — learning to give feedback as a reviewer-in-training and growing from the structured feedback you receive as an author
- You'll pick up the team's development processes, version control habits, and coding standards by putting them into practice alongside the people who shaped them
- When something looks off, you'll dig into it — investigating and documenting bugs or unexpected behavior in existing systems
- You'll support integration and regression testing for new features and patches, helping make sure what ships actually works
- You'll join team standups, sprint planning, and retrospectives, getting a real feel for how professional engineering workflows come together day to day
- You'll build genuine working knowledge of the banking and fintech domain as it applies to your product area — the terminology, the systems, how it all connects
- You'll collaborate with teammates to break down tasks, ask the questions that matter, and deliver incremental work your team can count on
What we're looking for
- You're currently enrolled in a Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a closely related degree program, with at least one semester still ahead of you
- You can commit to a consistent part-time weekly schedule that works around your university timetable
- You've written working code in at least one language — Java, Python, C, C++, JavaScript, or similar — and have something to show for it
- You're comfortable reading and making sense of code that someone else wrote, not just building things from a blank file
- You're genuinely curious about how banking or fintech works and motivated to learn the domain, not just the tech
- You're happy coming into the Tel Aviv office regularly and enjoy getting things done as part of a team
- You communicate confidently in Hebrew day-to-day, and you can work your way through technical docs and resources in English
Nice to have
- You've completed at least one course in algorithms, data structures, or systems programming and came away with a passing grade
- You've picked up some experience with a version control system along the way — Git especially
- SQL or relational database concepts feel familiar to you, whether from a class or a side project you built yourself
- You've had a chance to work with financial data, simulations, or business logic — academically or just out of curiosity
- You've taken part in a hackathon, contributed to an open-source project, or gotten involved with a university engineering club
Benefits
- Hours that flex around your class schedule, so you're not choosing between coursework and real work
- You'll sit alongside senior engineers who are genuinely invested in helping you grow day to day
- Walk away with hands-on, CV-ready experience building software in a regulated financial environment
- If things go well, there's a clear path to a full-time role once you graduate
- You'll get exposure to enterprise-grade engineering practices that most students simply don't see until years into their career
