Senior Backend Engineer

We're seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to own the design and implementation of critical backend systems. You'll architect scalable distributed systems, optimize performance-critical codepaths, and mentor junior engineers.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement distributed backend systems in C++ handling millions of requests at sub-100ms latency
• Profile and optimize system performance — targeting 2-3x improvements in critical components
• Lead architectural decisions and design reviews; set standards for reliability and maintainability
• Build monitoring, logging, and alerting across distributed services
• Mentor junior engineers on distributed systems and C++ best practices
• Collaborate with product and infra to define SLOs

Requirements

• 5+ years backend engineering in production systems
• Deep C++ expertise — performant, maintainable code at scale
• Strong distributed systems knowledge (replication, consensus, eventual consistency)
• Track record optimizing performance through profiling and caching
• Experience with production databases and storage systems

Nice to Have

• Kafka / RabbitMQ or similar message queues
• Kubernetes or container orchestration
• Real-time / streaming systems
• Datadog, Prometheus, or other observability tools
